EV Engineering Camp 2025

From wood to wheels, experience the science, mechanics, and creativity behind how vehicles move.

This isn’t your average “build a go-kart” camp. It’s a full hands-on exploration into how electric vehicles actually work — the why behind the vroom. Learn to design, test, and build while discovering the physics, mechanics, and power systems that move our world.

Program Outline: 5-Day Learning Journey

Day 1 – Build the Base: Intro, Tool Training & Chassis Build,

Kickstart your engineering journey with tool safety and hands-on practice, then design and build your own chassis to understand what makes a vehicle stable and balanced. Key Concepts: structure · balance · centre of gravity Achievement: Master basic tools and build a sturdy kart frame from scratch.

Day 2 – Turn It Right: Steering Systems & Geometry,

Discover how steering works by creating your own front-wheel system and testing real-world turning mechanics. Key Concepts: steering geometry · linkages · control systems Achievement: Build and test a working steering system that turns smoothly and accurately.

Day 3 – Make It Move: Power Drill, Torque & Gear Ratios,

Attach a power drill to bring your kart to life. Learn how gear ratios affect speed and pulling strength, then test your setup in action. Key Concepts: torque · transmission · energy conversion Achievement: Power your kart using a real power drill and understand how energy turns into motion.

Day 4 – Stop Smart: Braking & Safety Systems,

Test and refine different braking setups, from hand brakes to foot pedals, and learn the science behind friction and control. Key Concepts: friction · safety design · control Achievement: Design and install a reliable braking system that keeps your kart safe to drive.

Day 5 – Fine-Tune & Fly: The Big Test & Reflection,

Adjust, polish, and customise your kart before taking it through a test course. Reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and what you’d improve next time. Key Concepts: ergonomics · testing · problem-solving mindset Achievement: Complete your full drill-powered EV and drive it through a mini obstacle course.
